Aug. 15 edition: FORT KENT - A 17-year-old girl was bruised but not seriously injured following a vehicle rollover on Thursday.

The minor, who is from Eagle Lake, was driving home at approximately 8:30 p.m. Aug. 9 and was just outside the Fort Kent town line when she tried to avoid hitting a rabbit in the road and went into the ditch and rolled her vehicle. The young driver was traveling southbound on Route 11 at the time, and went into a ditch, according to Fort Kent Police Chief Kenneth Michaud.

Officer Chuck Richard of Fort Kent was the first responder and the fire department was called in as it was initially thought the driver was pinned in her vehicle. However, she was not pinned and only suffered bruising from the accident. The vehicle, a 2000 Subaru 4-door wagon, was totaled from the accident, according to Michaud.
