SJVT participates in 2012 parades
Aug. 15 edition: Though I am about as Valley as they come, save a quarter Swiss, I attended my first Acadian Festival parade on Sunday. Twenty years away, and life, will do that. It was a lovely surprise to see so many cars lined up all along Main Street a full hour in advance. It says a lot about a parade when people arrive that early to secure a good spot. I met a woman of Dubois descent and bumped into a first cousin, and her parents, my aunt and uncle, and many others I know. It was a lovely time mingling on the sidelines. The Valley Times, as part of the “We Value: Community” underpinnings of its mission, had an entry in the Acadian Festival parade and another in the Van Buren Summerfest parade, both parades planned for the same time this year. We look forward to participating in the Fort Kent Scarecrow parade this fall. Forgive me as I take a little space here to share some photos of our own entries. Photos of other entries and attendees are already uploaded to our website at www.sjvalley-times.com ... One final thing, Dan Doyon (driving our vehicle in the Madawaska parade) and Chad Michaud (driving in the Van Buren parade) and their sons appreciated your waves. Thank you!
