EXCLUSIVELY ONLINE - ST. JOHN VALLEY LAKES REGION - North Lakes Fire & Rescue completed a project in July that will allow firefighters from that department as well as those in the region to train on how to put out propane tank fires, according to a statement from North Lakes Chief Darren R. Woods.

This type of training is required for all firefighters to have, but is often difficult to obtain due to either trying to get portable equipment or having them travel great distances, Woods said in the statement. The new training tool will allow departments to train much closer to home and creates a reliable and safe place to do it.

Northeastern Supply in Caribou was a major contributor to this project, donating materials and labor. Other contributors to this project were Soderberg Construction, Aroostook Roofing, and labor by the volunteer firefighters.

The North Lakes Fire & Rescue covers the areas of Sinclair, Cross Lake, Square Lake and Madawaska Lake.
