FRENCHVILLE / SAN LUIS REY, CALIF. - Ovilla Rossignol, age 85, died peacefully on Sept. 29, 2011 at his home in California, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Nov. 12, 1925 in Frenchville, the son of Marie and Fred Rossignol. He was a farmer, an educator, a businessman, and an avid fisherman. Following military service to his country during WWII, he graduated from the University of Maine in Orono with a degree in engineering. Ovilla was active in the Lions Club and the American Legion, and contributed greatly to the betterment of the communities where he lived. He was devoted to his family and his God, and over decades he helped guide many people to the Lord. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Verly Daigle Rossignol, and five children, daughter Elaine McGuire and husband Gerry of Asheville, NC; son Dave Rossignol and his wife Val of Fort Kent, and their children Matthew, Steven, and Katie; daughter Kathie Ferraro and husband John of Victorville, Calif. and their daughter Laura; daughter Donna Roy of Fort Kent and her son David; daughter Debbie McConnell and her husband Patrick of San Marcos, Calif.; sister Gilmay Labrie of Madawaska; sister Theresa Levesque of Phelan, Calif.; and sister Corine Lajoie and husband Melvin of San Marcos, Calif. A celebration of life was held at Mission San Luis Rey in California, where he rests in peace. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Edgar J. Paradis Cancer Fund, c/o Northern Maine Medical Center.
