At 1:50 a.m. U.S. time, Boutot said, the call came in about a “large” fire. According to Boutot, the building housed nearly 10,000 chickens, all of which were lost in the fire. The building was also a total loss, he said.
Units from St. Francois, Clair and Baker Brook, N.B., responded, said Boutot. Two tankers and personnel from the Fort Kent Fire Department were also dispatched.
Fort Kent chief Ed Endee said that his firefighters were on scene approximately 2 1/2 hours. Neither chief reported any injuries to facility employees or firefighters. Boutot said that about 50 firefighters had responded to the scene, which was cleared by 3 p.m. that day.
The same facility was destroyed by fire three years ago, added Boutot. Provincial fire marshals are investigating.
