JOFFRE DAIGLE

1919 - 2012

CARIBOU and MADAWASKA - Joffre Daigle, 92, died peacefully at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Caribou on June 15, 2012. He was born July 31, 1919 in Glendyne, Qué., son of the late Willie and Denise (Guy) Daigle. Joffre graduated from Assumption Preparatory School in Worcester, Mass. and then went on to graduate from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston. He served with the Marines and Navy in World War II and was stationed in Brunswick and in the Marshall Islands in the South Pacific. Joffre owned and operated Daigle’s Drugstore in Madawaska for more than 35 years, from 1946 to1982. He then worked for Brooks Drugstore as a pharmacist. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the American Legion, Post 147 in Madawaska for more than 60 years. He was also a charter member and district governor for the Lion’s Club as well as a charter member of La Vallee Credit Union, now Acadia Federal Credit Union. Joffre was an avid boat racer in Maine and Québec.  He enjoyed music and loved to play the piano. He is survived by his wife, Gloria (Breau) Daigle of Madawaska; two sons, John (Eva) Daigle of Tallahassee, Fla., Joffre Jr. (Rita) Daigle of Springvale; two daughters, Lynn  (Don) Michaud of Madawaska, Parise (Bob) Skoczenski of Pensacola Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Gallagher, Erina, Pierre, Andre, Guy, Eric, Brian, Alyssa, and Katie; three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Sophia, and Gabriel; two sisters, Bridgette Cote of Edmundston, N.B. and Rose Marie Frenette of Texas; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was predeceased by his stepmother, Melanie; his sisters, Frances Morin, Patricia St. Jean; and his brother, Joel (Daigle) Audibert. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
