Woodland couple perishes in Cross Lake Twp. accident
CROSS LAKE TOWNSHIP - A Woodland couple has died after a vehicle accident in Cross Lake Township on Sunday. Tr. Todd Stetson and Sgt. Brian Harris of the Maine State Police responded to a fatal crash involving a car and a motorcycle at approximately 12:15 p.m. Sunday, July 8 on Route 161 in T17R4 (Cross Lake Township), according to a press release from the Maine State Police. Allen Rossignol, 52, of Woodland was operating his 2012 Victory motorcycle northbound on Route 161 with his wife, Judy Rossignol, 50, of Woodland as a passenger. Stephanie Dumais, 42, of Mapleton was operating her 2007 Hyundai car southbound on Route 161. Rossignol drifted into the southbound lane into the path of Dumais, and Dumais and Rossignol struck head on and both of the Rossignols were thrown from the motorcycle, according to the State Police statement.
Dumais was transported by Caribou Ambulance to Cary Medical Center in Caribou for treatment to a cut to her leg. The Rossignols were transported by Fort Kent Ambulance to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent. Allen Rossignol died while enroute to Fort Kent from severe injuries sustained in the accident. Judy Rossignol also sustained severe injuries and died as a result of her injuries while at NMMC, according to the Maine State Police.
The Rossignols were wearing helmets. Their motorcycle was destroyed in the crash. Dumais was wearing a seatbelt and her vehicle was also destroyed in the crash.
Stetson was assisted at the scene by Maine Warden Service, Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department, and North Lakes Fire and Rescue.
