ONLINE FIRST: GRAND ISLE - Two women were transported to Cary Medical Center with minor injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident in Grand Isle on Tuesday, July 24, according a press release from the Aroostook County sheriff’s office.

Sandra Lavoie, 54, of Grand Isle was attempting to make a left turn into a driveway on Main Street in Grand Isle, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Sgt. Forrest Dudley of the sheriff’s office said in the release. Her 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix was struck from behind by Allen Dionne, 50, of Madawaska, when Dionne said he was unable to stop his 2008 Ford pickup in time.

Lavoie’s car was pushed into the oncoming lane, when Dionne’s truck rear-ended her vehicle.

Lavoie suffered minor injuries in the accident, and was transported by Van Buren Ambulance to Cary Medical Center, according the press release.

Dudley reported that Gail Beaupre, 46, a passenger in Lavoie’s vehicle was also transported to Cary Medical Center for minor injuries sustained in the accident.

The Pontiac is considered a total loss, but Dionne's Ford could be driven from the scene, despite having sustained front-end damage, said Dudley.

Members of the Grand Isle Fire Department also assisted Dudley, who is the primary investigator, at the scene. No charges are pending in this accident, he added.
