Oct. 3 edition: ST. AGATHA - The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently awarded $249,600 to the University of Maine in Orono for research into potato breeding and variety development.

LaBrie Farms in St. Agatha is among the area growers collaborating with the potato breeding project and has taken part in various potato variety selection trials for several years.

The potato breeding work is done at the University's Aroostook Research Farm in Presque Isle, as well as the Orono campus.
